Identifying Synthetic Diamonds
Sunday Aug 31
3 Hours, 10:30am-1:30pm
Through a combination of lecture and hands-on practice with a microscope, you'll learn how to identify HPHT-grown synthetic diamonds and separate them from natural diamonds.
You'll also gain greater insight into the identification of CVD-grown synthetic diamond.
You will learn how to easily separate synthetic moissanite and synthetic cubic zirconia from diamond.
Previous gemmological training and/or experience recommended.
Identifying Diamond Treatments
Sunday Aug 31
3 Hours, 2:30pm-5:30pm
Learn about various diamond treatments, including HPHT, fracture filling and irradiation and how to identify them. Then apply the theory by practising with treated stones and gain hands-on experience under the supervision of an experienced GIA instructor.
Previous diamond grading experience required.
Advanced Diamond Grading
Monday Sept 1
3 Hours, 2:30pm-5:30pm
Learn advanced diamond grading techniques to overcome the challenges of grading certain round brilliant cut stones, marquises, pears, ovals, and more. Practice colour grading using master sets and fancy-shaped diamonds. Gain the confidence to accept more demanding grading business.
Learn how the right borderline calls make better buying decisions.
The Advanced Diamond Grading Lab is a class strongly recommended to people with previous diamond grading training or experience.
Identifying Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald
Tuesday Sept 2
6 Hours, 10:30am-5:30pm
Become up-to-date on rubies, sapphires, and emeralds, in just one day. Learn about new ruby synthetics, the latest treatments (including fracture filling), and use our lab equipment to get an up-close look at rubies from new sources.
Learn how to detect treated sapphires and synthetics, and the importance of treatment disclosure. And receive up-to-date information on emerald treatments and synthetics with a highly challenging lab to test your skills.
The Identifying Ruby, Sapphire, Emeralds Lab is a class strongly recommended to people with previous Gem Identification and Coloured Stone Grading experience.
Gem Treatments Update
Wednesday Sept 3
3 Hours, 10:30am-1:30pm
Through a combination of instructor presentations and by practising with stones, you will gain insight on various treatments seen in the trade today.
You will learn how to identify whether the stone is treated and differentiate between treatments.
Previous gemmological education recommended.
Prior enrolment is necessary for all seminars.
