Advanced Diamond Grading
Learn advanced grading techniques to overcome the challenges of grading certain round brilliant cut stones, marquises, pears, ovals, and more. Practice color grading using master sets and fancy-shaped diamonds. Gain the confidence to accept more demanding grading business.

Advanced Gemmology Seminars
The Advanced Gemmology Lab Classes are predominately hands-on labs. They are ideal for jewellers and gemmologists seeking to broaden or refine their diamond grading and gem identification skills. They also provide up-to-date information on new treatments and synthetics.
You will practise grading or identifying a variety of diamonds or coloured stones that feature different characteristics and that have been previously graded by the GIA Lab.
Identifying Synthetic Diamonds Lab
Through a combination of lecture and hands-on practice with a microscope, you'll learn how to identify HPHT-grown synthetic diamonds and separate them from natural diamonds.
You'll also gain greater insight into the identification of CVD-grown synthetic diamond.
You will learn how to easily separate synthetic moissanite and synthetic cubic zirconia from diamond.
Previous gemological training and/or experience recommended.
Diamond Cut Grade Seminar
By practicing with diamonds and under the guidance of a GIA instructor, you will learn about the new GIA Diamond Cut Grading System for round brilliant cut diamonds. You will also gain valuable hands-on experience in estimating cut grades. You will learn how to judge brightness, fire, and scintillation, and how proportions, polish and symmetry relate to the final cut grade.
Previous diamond education required, including a working knowledge of GIA's International Diamond Grading System™.
Identifying Diamond Treatments
Learn about various diamond treatments, including HPHT, fracture filling and irradiation and how to identify them.
Then apply the theory by practicing with treated stones and gain hands-on experience under the supervision of an experienced GIA instructor.
Previous diamond grading experience required.
Identifying Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald Lab
Become up-to-date on rubies, sapphires, and emeralds, in just one day. Learn about new ruby synthetics, the latest treatments (including fracture filling), and use our lab equipment to get an upclose look at rubies from new sources.
Learn how to detect treated sapphires and synthetics, and the importance of treatment disclosure. And receive up-to-date information on emerald treatments and synthetics with a highly challenging lab to test your skills.
The Identifying Ruby,Sapphire, Emerals Lab is a class strongly recommended to people with previous Gem Identification and Colored Stone Grading experience.
Gem Treatments Update
Through a combination of instructor presentations and by practicing with stones, you will gain insight on various treatments seen in the trade today.
You will learn how to identify whether the stone is treated and differenciate between treatments.
Previous gemmological education required.
