We welcome back our popular speaker and friend Rui Galopim de Carvalho from Portugal.
Rui became engaged with the gem world with his final Seminar at Lisboa's University on the causes of color of dravite-schorlite tourmalines. Later in London he obtained his FGA and DGA. Founder of the first Gemological Laboratory in Portugal and editor of the first Portuguese gemmology journal "Portugal Gemas", he has been engaged in gemmological promotion and education through national museums, trade associations, jewellery design schools and national trade shows. He is an international lecturer and author on various aspects of the gem and jewellery industry, with special focus on the history of the use of gems, participating in scientific, trade and consumer orientated events all over the world.
