You are cordially invited to attend a talk on
The Art of Gerry Summers
by Gerry Summers
Gerry Summers was the son of a traditional blacksmith. His childhood was spent watching his father shoe horses and mend ploughs. It should therefore come as no surprise that he took to metalwork, but on a smaller and considerably more precious scale. He studied Jewellery Design at the Central School of Art and Design in London enjoying the fertile and nebulous flux of excitement and creativity during the Punk and New Romantic periods of the late seventies.
He established his own business in 1983 and immediately created an impact in those early years with prizes for design in competitions including The Goldsmiths Competition, The Platinum Award and De Beers Diamonds Tomorrow. Colour is a major part of his work with the use of large precious stones including Tourmaline, Aquamarine, Tanzanite, and Spessartine highlighted with fine quality diamonds. The inspiration for his enchanting jewels has come from a desire to create a symbiosis of natural form and pure geometry and is heavily influenced by the art of ancient cultures.
GIA Alumni Association is so pleased that Gerry can talk to the London Chapter. He is opening his own Jewellery School in September 2009 and his studio in West London is always an open house for clients and friends.
