When many consumers think of cultured pearls, the pearls they see in their minds usually look very much like Japanese Akoya cultured pearls.
The popularity of Akoya cultured pearls is hardly surprising. They were the firs spherical cultured pearls (whole), introduced early in the twentieth century.
