International Students FAQs
Although every effort is made by GIA London to ensure the accuracy of the information and advice given on this website, the requirements relating to visas are complex and change frequently. We cannot accept responsibility for any changes in the rules. Students are bound by the regulations of the UK Border Agency, and are encouraged to verify the information and the requirements that apply to you on the UK Border Agency website.
- How and when do I apply for my Student Visa?
Once we receive a completed application form with all necessary supporting documents and fees, we will review your application and inform you if you have been accepted in the programme by sending you an Enrolment Agreement that you will need to read carefully, sign and return to us in order to complete your enrolment. Only then, if you meet both academic and English language requirements, GIA London will issue with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). Please note: You will need to have a CAS before you can apply for a Tier 4 (General) Student Visa.
We strongly encourage you to apply as early as three months before your course start date, and the visa will be valid at the earliest from one month before the start of your course. Please email info@gialondon.co.uk if you have any questions regarding your student visa.
- Do you offer financial assistance for International students?
Different scholarship options may be available at different times during the year. Please refer to the Financial Assistance Page on this website for further information available.
- Can students work whilst in the UK under Tier 4 studying GIA London?
Students in the Tier 4 (General) category who were assigned a CAS and used it in an application made on or after 4 July 2011studying at GIA London are not allowed to work. This reflects recent changes announced by the UK Border Agency and the non-ability to work for students studying at privately funded institutions.
- Do International Students need to register with the Police?
International students of certain nationalities may be required to register with the police within 7 days of arrival in the UK. This requirement will be written in your passport if it applies to you.
- Do you offer health insurance for International students?
Health insurance is not included in student fees. Please contact us for information about health insurance options.
- What are the responsibilities of GIA London as a Licensed Sponsor?
GIA London also has legal responsibilities under the immigration rules. GIA London is legally obliged to report sponsored Tier 4 students to the UK Border Agency if that student fails to enrol within 10 working days from orientation. GIA London must also notify the UK Border Agency within 10 working days if the student withdraws from a course, suspends studies, changes course, or is unexpectedly absent for a significant period. If GIA London stops sponsoring a student because they move into an immigration category with a different sponsor or one that does not need a sponsor, or their permission to stay in the U.K. ends because their course ends, or for any other reason, GIA London must tell the UK Border Agency within 10 working days.
